CARTONS UNDER THE SUN
Through the recycling projects of the Lionheart Society (www.lionheartsociety.com), a student-initiated community service group I am currently leading,
we have been able to collect annually around 150,000 – 200,000 discarded beverage cartons. Apart from sending these items to Tetrapak to be manufactured into roof sheets and boats used during natural calamities,
I have also used these cartons to make sunhats. This is another eco-friendly and creative way of upcycling these beverage cartons. Using my knowledge of the production method,
I have taught those working low-income jobs in both Bangkok and rural areas the skills required to make the hats as a means of gaining more money, producing their own clothing and as gifts.
The hats have also been donated to children in order to protect them from the harsh sunlight.
